Biometric time and attendance system to be introduced in colleges

Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has decided to revoke the recognition granted to Sri Chaitanya College, Narsingi branch with effect from next year.

The decision comes after a first-year student, Satvik committed suicide in the college alleging harassment by the college principal and other staff.

Secretary, BIE, Naveen Mittal and Secretary, Education, Vakati Karuna on Monday held discussions with the managements of intermediate educational institutions in the wake of Satvik’s suicide.

“Biometric time and attendance system will be introduced from the next academic year to regulate college timings”, Naveen Mittal said. He also said that stern action would be taken if additional classes are conducted beyond the permitted timings.

It has been decided during the meeting to constitute a committee to regulate fake advertisements aimed at luring students.

Ironically, Minister for Education, Sabita Indra Reddy did not attend the meeting as claimed earlier.

Meanwhile, some representatives of the private college managements said on condition of anonymity that this kind of meetings do take place whenever student suicide cases are reported. However, over a period of time, the incident is forgotten and all the so-called measures taken by the successive governments are ignored.

It is the managements of private colleges which prevail over the BIE, they said.
