Tainted Inspector of Hyderabad CCS held for bribery

Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have arrested Inspector of Hyderabad city police after a brief chase and sent him to prison on charges of bribery.

ACB officials said that the tainted cop, Chamakuri Sudhakar was arrested on June 13 evening when he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 3 lakhs from the complainant to dilute the case registered against the latter.

Sudhakar was working as Inspector in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Central Crime Station (CCS) of the Hyderabad City Police.

Officials said the Inspector was handling a case of cheating registered against Manirangaswamy Iyer of Bowenpally based on a complaint lodged by CVS Satya Prasad of Alwal.

Iyer approached Sudhakar to close the case against him following which the police official demanded Rs 15 lakh as bribe for doing the favour. Iyer bargained with the Inspector to reduce the bribe amount and paid Rs 5 lakh as advance some time ago. Later, he negotiated with the cop to close the deal for a total bribe of Rs 8 lakh, ACB officials said.

As agreed, Iyer met Sudhakar at the parking area near CCS on June 13 evening and paid the remaining bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh. In the meantime, Sudhakar noticed some strangers approaching him and identified them as ACB sleuths. Immediately, he dropped the bag containing bribe money and took to heels.

However, the ACB officials chased the tainted cop and nabbed him. A chemical test conducted on him yielded positive results. Consequently, the tainted cop was produced before the designated court and sent him to prison.

ACB officials appealed to the people to contact the anti-corruption agency on its toll free number 1064 if any public servant demands bribe. This is the second instance wherein the ACB arrested tainted official of the CCS in less than a month. In May, ACB officials arrested assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of CCS, T S Uma Maheshwar Rao in a case of disproportionate assets.
