DCA raids three clinics run by quacks

Quacks selling steroids indiscriminately

Officials seize Rs. 1 lakh worth drugs from quack in Film Nagar

Jubilee Hills is one of the posh localities in Hyderabad and Film Nagar in this area has mixed population. While established film actors live in posh bungalows and luxury apartments in this area, upcoming and aspiring actors live in small tenements.

Preying on such aspiring actors and lower middleclass people is a quack identified as Annapureddy Rajalakshmi. She has been running a clinic claiming to be a medical practitioner without any requisite qualification thereby endangering the lives of hundreds of people visiting her clinic.

Sources in the Drug Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, said these quacks have been prescribing and selling steroids and antibiotics indiscriminately to their patients to make quick bucks.

This shocking fact came to light when officials of the DCA conducted raids in Jubilee Hills, Jangaon and Vepur village of Mahbubnagar districts on Friday.

DCA officials found Annapureddy Rajalakshmi in Film Nagar area of Jubilee Hills, Chintakindi Yadagiri in Jangaon and Bandari Venkata Swamy in Vepur village of Mahbubnagar district running clinics without any requisite qualification or experience.

The officials seized medicine worth Rs. 2.56 lakhs illegally stockpiled by the quacks. Shockingly, the DCA officials found 10 varieties of expired drugs and 12 varieties of physician samples in Vepur clinic.

Officials found ‘steroids’ at these clinics of quacks. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health.

Assistant Directors G. Rajyalakshmi of Hyderabad T. Rajamouli and M Aravind Kumar of Warangal and Hyderabad, Drugs Inspectors Shaik Rabiya of Mahbubnagar, A. Balakrishna of Jangaon, Ch. Swapna and B. Lakshmi of Jubilee Hills and Charminar and A. Rashmi of Wanaparthy are among the officers who carried out the raids.

Director General of Drugs Control Administration, V B Kamalasan Reddy warned that stringent action will be taken against wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to unqualified and unlicensed persons. Complaints about illegal activities related to medicines can be made to Drugs Control Administration, Telangana on toll free number 1800-599-6969 between 10:30 am and 5:00 pm on all working days, he said.
