Cruel Gurugram couple held for torturing minor girl

Gurugram police arrested a couple for hiring a minor girl as domestic help and subjecting her to brutal torture.

The arrested have been identified as Manish Khattar and his wife Kamaljeet Kaur. The 14-year-old girl hailing from Jharkhand has been rescued and being treated at a hospital. Police suspect the girl might have been sexually assaulted, but the charge is yet to be confirmed.

The poor girl was hired through an agent to look after the cruel couple’s three and a half year old daughter. However, the couple starved the girl, stamped her with hot tong, cut the girl with blades and beat her with sticks. The girl had to survive on the leftovers thrown in the dustbin in the couple’s house.

The girl silently suffered the torture as her parents were poor and the agent had brought her on a contract, police said.

A Gurugram-based NGO contacted the police after a Twitter thread by an activist, Deepika Narayan Bharadwaj, on the victim’s condition went viral, following which the police rescued the girl from the house.

Even as the police arrested the cruel couple, Kamaljeet was sacked by her employer as well.
