BJP MLA Raja Singh demands CBI probe into fake certificates scam

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator, Raja Singh on Tuesday demanded CBI probe into the fake birth and death certificates scam in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The fake certificates scam operated from the Old City of Hyderabad, he said and alleged the role of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) behind the scam. Raja Singh expressed fears that the certificates could have been issued to illegal immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The firebrand BJP MLA alleged that the BRS government never monitors the illegal activities in Old City because it fears MIM. It is the responsibility of the GHMC authorities to keep an eye on the outsourcing employees.

It may be recalled as many as 31,000 fake birth and death certificates had been issued in Hyderabad between 2020 and 2022. GHMC authorities cancelled the validity of all those certificates and ordered a probe.

Sources said some people have secured government jobs using the fake birth certificates, while fake insurance claims have been cleared on the basis of fake death certificates.

The massive scam came to light when Task Force sleuths unearthed fake certificates racket in Moghalpura in December last.
