Delhi court denies interim bail to BRS leader K Kavitha

In a setback for Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha, a Delhi court on Monday denied interim bail to her in connection with  the alleged excise policy scam.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court on Monday dismissed Kavitha’s plea saying the stage was not right to enlarge her on interim bail. Kavitha had moved the court for interim bail, saying her 16-year-old son has exams and needs his mother’s moral and emotional support.

However, the ED opposed the bail plea contending that Kavitha’s release on bail would adversely impact the investigation and she is likely to tamper evidence in the case. The probe agency told the court that it already has proof that she had threatened some of those who have turned approver in the case.

After hearing both sides, the court had reserved its order on April 4. Today, the court dismissed the bail plea of Kavitha.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Kavitha on March 15 after searches at her residence in Hyderabad. It has been claimed that Kavitha was involved in establishing the money laundering ecosystem, i.e., M/s Indo Spirits, through her proxy, which generated proceeds of crime worth Rs 192.8 crore.
