Four officials of Hyderabad Water Board suspended for corruption

Hyderabad Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director Dana Kishore suspended four officials including a manager after an enquiry found their involvement in corrupt activities

The suspended corrupt officials include Bachupally Section manager, K Satyanarayana, Linemen T Sahadev, N Raghurama Reddy and Data Entry Operator, Raghavendra. While Satyanarayana has been placed under suspension, rest of the three were removed from their jobs.

According to officials, Dana Kishore ordered an enquiry against the four officials after he received complaints from some of the residents of Anurag Colony in Bachupally section. The residents – K Ajay Kumar, G Harikrishna, M Rajendrababu, G Praveen Kumar, M Tirupati Reddy and Arogya Reddy – approached Water Board seeking 15MM – 20MM size water tap connections.

Immediately, Satyanarayana approached the applicants through a broker and demanded Rs. 60,000/- as bribe for each connection. He even got the money transferred to the bank account of the broker. Subsequently, the residents got unauthorized tap connections.

Not content with the bribe collected, Satyanarayana again sent Water Board staff to the applicants, threatened them of resorting to water theft and demanded Rs. 30,000/- as bribe promising to regularize the unauthorized water tap connections.

Frightened over this, each of the residents paid the bribe to Satyanarayana as per his demand. However, the connections were not regularized. As a result, the victims approached Water Board managing director and brought the issue to his notice.

Immediately, the Water Board chief ordered an enquiry and suspended the four officials after ascertaining their involvement in corrupt activities.
