Meerpet SI, Saidulu held for bribery

Sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday arrested a Sub-Inspector of Police working at Meerpet police station in Rachakonda police commissionerate on charges of bribery.

According to ACB officials, the police officer, Boddupally Saidulu was caught when he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant M Subhash for showing official favour of dropping action on the complaint given by one Nazimuddin.

ACB officials said that Subhash had entered into an agreement to purchase a house site from Nazimuddin in Meerpet area. However, Nazimuddin later wanted to cancel the agreement and approached Boddupally Saidulu.

The police officer, who is not supposed to interfere in civil disputes, called Subhash to police station and threatened to implicate him in a criminal case if he refused to cancel the contract. However, Subhash bargained for some time and left the police station. Later, Subhash and Nazimuddin compromised the matter outside the police station after the latter paid some excess amount in addition to what Subhash had paid at the time of execution of the sale agreement.

On coming to know about the compromise, Sub-Inspector Saidulu again summoned Subhash to police station and demanded a cut in the additional amount received by him as part of compromise. Subhash recorded the entire conversation with the police officer and approached the ACB. Consequently, the ACB registered a case and arrested Sub-Inspector Saidulu when he received the tainted money. The tainted money was seized and the accused officer will be sent to prison, ACB officials said.
