Wrongdoings by revenue officials

RTI info reveals mere 112 cases booked against revenue officials since 1995

Hundreds of thousands of cases pertaining to land disputes, particularly those cropped up because of the wrong and illegal entries in revenue records are pending before the courts in the state.

But, merely 112 cases are registered against erring revenue officials in the state since 1995 for irregularities such as issuing patta passbooks to others while the actual owners are someone else. This is because the revenue officials enjoy enormous influence and the police never book cases against corrupt revenue officials despite lodging complaints.

One victim said it is amusing to find that only 112 cases are registered against revenue officials that too since 1995. In fact, thousands of land related litigations cropped up in Ranga Reddy district alone due to the irregularities committed by the revenue officials after introduction of Dharani Portal, another victim said.

Even these statistics came to light in response to an RTI application filed by M Srinivas Reddy of Gudipally village in Nalgonda district.

Srinivas Reddy sought the information after his wife Maligireddi Sandhya lodged a complaint against revenue officials last year alleging that the officials have registered a land owned by her to third party illegally.

Yet, the government boasts of transparency and that wrong entries and illegal transactions have been eliminated through Dharani.
