Mother-daughter duo foil armed robbery attempt in Hyderabad

In what can be termed as presence of mind and display of courage, a mother-daughter duo foiled an armed robbery attempt in Hyderabad.

The incident took place in Rasoolpura area of Begumpet police station limits. The two women managed to snatch crude fire arm from one of the robbers as well as catch one of them.

CCTV footage doing rounds on the internet shows two miscreants, one of them wearing helmet enter the house. While one of the robbers pulled out a crude gun, another held the maid of the house at knife-point. However, the two women, displaying presence of mind and courage, confronted the robbers.

Police said Navratan Jain and his wife Amita Mehot lived at Paigah Housing Colony in Rasoolpura along with their daughter. At around 2.15 pm on Thursday when Navratan was out and Amita, along with her daughter and maid were at home, two men, later identified as -Premchand and Sushil Kumar- knocked on the door saying they had come to deliver a parcel.

Police said Amita asked them to stay outside. However, Sushil, who was wearing a helmet entered the house and pulled out a gun. Premchand also followed him and went to the kitchen where he saw the maid and held her at knifepoint. The duo demanded Amita to give them all her valuables.

In a surprise move, Amita kicked Sushil back and her daughter, who came to her help, also started attacking Sushil. They started screaming while also trying to fight the miscreants back. Upon hearing screams, the neighbours rushed to help them. While Premchand was chased and caught, Sushil managed to escape.

Sushil was later detained by GRP sleuths at Kazipet in Warangal district. A case has been registered against the duo based on Amita’s complaint. Initial interrogation revealed that Sushil and Premchand used to work in Amita’s house about a year ago. They identified the place where all the valuables are kept and left the job. The duo tried to rob Amita’s family but failed as the mother-daughter displayed presence of mind and bravery.
