Kejriwal withdraws petition in SC against ED arrest

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday withdrew his petition from the Supreme Court against his arrest.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday after skipping nine summonses by the agency in the liquor policy scam. He will now approach the trial court, in accordance with protocol.

Representing Kejriwal in Supreme Court, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that he will argue the case before the Magistrate regarding remand when ED produces him before the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi.

“We are withdrawing the petition here as it is clashing with the remand. We will argue the remand and come back here. I will give a letter to the Registry,” Singhvi said. The Court allowed the request.

The ED arrested Kejriwal after the Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to grant him protection from the arrest. Kejriwal’s move to withdraw the petition came hours after the apex court denied Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha’s plea in the same case. The court told Kavitha to approach the trial court for relief, including bail.
