Tamil leader claims LTTE chief Prabhakaran is alive

Six years ago, intelligence agencies alerted security establishments in India about possible regrouping of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Intelligence agencies had issued the alert few days before the Republic Day celebrations.

Everybody thought intelligence agencies were unnecessarily ringing alarm bells. However, six years later, former Congress leader, writer and Tamil nationalist, Pazha Nedumaran made a sensational announcement.

Nedumaran said LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhkaran, is alive and healthy. He will come out soon for the people of Tamil Eelam, Nedumaran said.

Sri Lankan authorities declared Prabhakaran dead in 2009 after conducting DNA tests. However, 14 years later, Nedumaran makes a statement claiming Prabhakar is alive. Interestingly, the statement comes couple of months after the Supreme Court orders release of the six Rajiv Gandhi killers.

Also, the statement comes after Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country leaving the country in economic crisis. Gotabaya is considered to be the man who ended civil war with LTTE. Nedumaran’s announcement could be a hint at the revival of LTTE since the present situation favours the banned outfit to make a comeback.
