BJP wants Telangana DGP be sent to AP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telagnana on Sunday demanded that the Director General of Police (DG) of Telangana be sent to Andhra Pradesh immediately.

BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao made the demand as the DGP Anjani Kumar belongs to  Andhra Pradesh state cadre.

Rao alleged that injustice was done to the Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from Telangana by the state government as it posted four IPS officers from Bihar in key positions.

The MLA told reporters that in the recent transfer of 93 IPS officers, Anjani Kumar, Sanjay Jain, Swati Lakra and Shahnawaz Qasim were given key posts.

He alleged that not even one IPS officer from Telangana was given an important post.

He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao gave key posts to officials who were obeying the government’s orders by arresting leaders of opposition parties.

It may be recalled some All-India service officers allotted to Andhra Pradesh continued in Telangana though the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has passed orders against such officers.

Such officers had been continuing in Telangana by challenging CAT order in the Telangana High Court. However, one such officer, the previous chief secretary, Somesh Kumar, had to leave Telangana after the High Court upheld CAT order.

Only a few days before the High Court passed adverse order against Somesh Kumar, the Telangana government appointed Anjani Kumar as the new DGP. Even after the adverse order, the government is continuing the DGP on the pretext of waiting for High Court order.

Interestingly, the case related to cadre allotment of DGP Anjani Kumar and some other AIS officers, which was supposed to be taken up by the regular bench on January 27, did not come up for hearing on the scheduled day.

It is not clear if the matter will be listed for hearing in the near future.
