Constable held for sexual assault on minor girl

A police constable working in Anantapur town of Andhra Pradesh sexually assaulted and then exploited a minor girl for over six months before being arrested on July 7.

According to information available, the sex maniac, Y Ramesh, is a native of Gooty area, but working in Anantapur as a police constable, while his wife worked as a constable in Prohibition and Excise department. He hired a minor girl from his native place to take care of his child. Despite being in the law enforcement department, the police constable hired a minor as servant maid which is against the labour laws.

He did not stop with that. The police constable had an evil eye on the minor girl though the girl is only a few years elder than his daughter. Instead of treating the girl as a daughter, the police constable sexually exploited her when his wife and daughter were out for work.

After exploiting the girl sexually for over six months, she became pregnant. Immediately, the police constable misused his official power and got aborted the pregnancy. Later, he began subjecting the girl to physical torture and mental abuse besides threatening to kill her if she disclosed about sexual assault and abortion to anyone. However, the victim could not take on the harassment anymore and informed her parents. They in turn approached higher ups following which a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act has been registered. Two Town police arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.
