Countdown for politicos begins in Karnataka

Countdown for political parties in Karnataka began on Saturday with the Chief Election Commissioner’s announcement that the term of fifteenth legislature will end on May 24.

Addressing a press conference, CEC Rajiv Kumar said that he had discussed with the representatives for three days on holding elections transparently.

“There are 5,21,73,599 voters in Karnataka. I have discussed with all party representatives, election officers and BBMP staff in connection with poll preparation,” he said.

He expressed his displeasure over low rate of voter turnout especially in Bengaluru in 2018 general assembly elections.

A total of 9,17,241 new voters will exercise their rights for the first time in upcoming elections. As many as 58,282 polling stations would be set up across Karnataka for the polling.

All political parties in the state have already gone into election mood. While BJP is trying to hard to retain power, Congress is leaving no stone unturned to wrest power from BJP.

In this background, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also making their efforts to enter the poll fray in Karnataka mainly to prevent the saffron party from coming back to power.
