EC appoints Harish Kumar Gupta as AP DGP

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed senior IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Andhra Pradesh.
The ECI transferred incumbent K V Rajendranath Reddy following allegations of misuse of power to favour the ruling YSR Congress Party.
Earlier, the ECI sought three names of IPS officers eligible for the post on the basis of seniority. Accordingly, the chief secretary has sent the names of Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Madireddy Pratap and Harish Kumar Pratap.
The ECI decided to appoint Gupta as the Head of Police Force and directed him to take charge immeidately.
