JD (S) to go with NDA in Lok Sabha polls

Even as the Congress party is trying to bring various oppostition parties under one umbrella to fight the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also trying to win the support of regional parties.

The loss in Karnataka assembly elections seems to be the trigger for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) think about a political alliance in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

And here comes the hint from none other than the former chief minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Bommai said talks were on between his party high command and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. Former CM H D Kumaraswamy has already expressed his views. The next political development depends on the outcome of the meetings.

Sources said Kumaraswamy will travel to New Delhi to hold talks in this regard on Monday or Tuesday. They also said JD (S) has almost decided to join the NDA led by the BJP.

Meanwhile, commenting on the opposition parties meeting in Bengaluru scheduled for July 18, Bommai said, “No opposition party is powerful in the entire country. Regional parties have become opposition parties. Formation of a federation of Opposition parties or creating a forum… there is no political meaning or political gain.”

“They are coming together only to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It clearly shows they don’t have the strength of their own. There is no particular programme of their own,” Bommai said.

“People know that the country’s security, economic progress, education and social development is possible only under Modi’s leadership. There might be many meetings such as this, but there won’t be any gain for the opposition.
