Parliament proceedings washed out over Adani

Amid protests from opposition parties demanding a discussion and a probe into allegations of fraud against the Adani Group, Parliament proceedings did not begin till Tuesday afternoon from Monday morning.

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 12 p.m. on Tuesday on the Adani row as the notices of suspension in the Rajya Sabha and the adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha were rejected by the respective presiding officers and the opposition took objection to it.

The RS chairman said that the notices were not in conformity to the rules.

During the Budget session, which began on January 31, only the President’s address and the Budget presentation took place. Even the motion of thanks on the President’s address could not be initiated as the opposition stuck to its demand for a discussion over the Adani Group.

Notwithstanding what Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised his party members not to fall in the trap of Opposition, the actual intent of both the ruling and opposition parties seem to deprive the people of a healthy debate on budget 2022-23.

Analysts say that the Opposition is aware of the fact that no discussion can take place on Adani business unless the ruling party wants. In the present case, the ruling party will never want such discussion.

What more! It is not BJP or Modi alone who helped Adani in growing rich at the cost of common people. Analysts say that it was Congress government which helped Adani group before Modi came to power.

According to analysts, people like Adani have no loyalties. Such people are loyal to power and they easily make connections with those in power. If the opposition parties begin listing out in the Parliament the alleged favours extended by Modi to Adani, the BJP members will dig out the past and the discussion would go no where except wasting precious time of the Parliament at the cost of public money. Analysts suggest that it would be better if the ruling and opposition parties come to terms and allow the proceedings to take place in the Parliament so that health discussions can be carried out on the budget and other important issues instead of trying to gain mileage by politicizing Adani issue.
