BRS to play key role in union government after 2024 polls

BRS to play key role in union government after 2024 polls

Telangana’s Municipal administration and IT minister, K T Rama Rao on Monday said his party will play a key role in the union government after 2024 elections.

While briefing the cabinet decisions to the media, Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, predicted that coalition government will rule the nation after the 2024 elections.

It is pertinent to mention here that the BRS has not joined either opposition alliance INDIA, nor the ruling alliance NDA. However, there have been allegations from Congress and enough indications from KTR himself that the BRS may support BJP in forming the government after the polls.

If it happens, it is likely that KTR will become the chief minister of Telangana, while his father and present chief minister of the state will move to center to play a bigger role.

Perhaps it is due to this reason KTR said BRS will play a key role in the next coalition government at the center while announcing that the state government will seek funds for its grand expansion plans of metro rail.

The cabinet has decided to expand Hyderabad Metro at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore in next 3-4 years. A double-decker Metro line will be laid from Jubilee Bus Station to Thumkunta and Patny to Kandlakoya at Outer Ring Road (ORR), KTR told the media.

The minister said while one level will be for motor vehicles, the second level will be for Metro trains. Hyderabad Metro will also be extended from Isnapur to Miyapur, Miyapur to Lakdi Ka Pul, LB Nagar to Pedda amberpet, Uppal to Bibinagar, Kottur to Shadnagar and Uppal to ECIL.

A Metro Rail is also planned around the 159-km Outer Ring Road. The Hyderabad Metro Rail and the Municipal Administration Department have been asked to prepare detailed project report, he said.

The Minister said the state would request the Centre to cooperate in executing the project. He said that even if the present government at the Centre failed to cooperate, the next government at the Centre will extend the help. He predicted that a coalition government will come to power at the Centre next year in which BRS will have a key role.

The cabinet discussed various other issues. But one of the major decisions made is to recognize the TSRTC employees as government employees. With this decision, over 43,000 TSRTC employees will be benefited.

KTR said a sub-committee has been formed to frame the guidelines. The cabinet also approved to nominate B Satyanarayana from ST and Dasoju Sravan from BC community as MLC candidates under Governor quota.
